My floor speech in favor of House Bill 492, "Melanoma and Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month" was about the importance of early detection and the need to promote girls self esteem. This bill gives us an opportunity to talk to young girls about accepting themselves as they are and avoiding skin damage from tanning.

As many know, Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) has made progress in recent years, becoming the highest-rated urban school district in the state with a rating of “Effective”. While the district has more work to do, and we all have a role to play in supporting ongoing improvement, the state’s new rating system would dramatically alter Ohio's annual schools report card, and would – overnight – slap CPS with a rating of a "C” or lower. While not a failing grade, this would hardly reflect CPS' progress over the last decade.

The Ohio Nurses Association has endorsed my candidacy for State Representative in the 31st House District.  I am honored to get the support from the members of the ONA and look forward to continuing to advocate for issues important to nurses.  I am pleased to be a co-sponsor and proponent for increased penalties against those who assault nurses, and any other medical professional.  We need to protect those who put themselves at risk every day in order to save lives.

It was an honor to be selected "Public Elected Official of the Year" by the National Association of Social Workers, Region VI. Thanks to Jean Sepate for the nomination and kind words. It is gratifying to be recognized by an organization whose members work to lift people up every day.

Thank you to everyone who supported my primary campaign for the new 31st House District. I am so grateful to the voters and to those who worked so hard to ensure victory. I am looking forward to joining the rest of the democratic team on the November ticket!
